This space is easily outdated, perhaps we must take it out from the roguebasin?? (its not really part of its main philosophy...)

It should be part of the main philosophy but people just don't keep this section updated. I suggested this section orignally and also posted the first news item. However when I released the next version of my game I forgot about making an announcement here and later I didn't post anything either because I was disappointed that no one else did. I think it's safe to say that this approach (news section based on voluntary user contribution) doesn't work. YARNS (the wannabe RL news successor) suffered from the same problem. You can not rely on the original authors of the games to post the news, and you can not rely on random-contributors either. You need a dedicated full-time "RL journalist" (like the guy who maintained the original Roguelike News site - that was a great site!) who does the work (yes, it's W-O-R-K). Also news in a wiki just doesn't "feel" right I've to admit. I will remove this section unless someone disagrees AND offers a solution soon. --Copx 13:05, 13 Jul 2005 (CEST)

see also rec.games.roguelike.announce?

Would it be unthinkable to leave only newest notice of every project on the news? Older ones could be pushed into old news or perhaps removed completely - I can't see a lot of use for record of updates long gone. Old news could be older-than-month newest versions then. Right now there are multiple reiterations grinning me in the face. --Averus 00:33, 12 June 2009 (CEST)

You mean like where you've got TinyCurses 0.9b,c,d,e and f only keep the last one? Wouldn't bother me at all to get rid of the old ones - but I don't fancy being the one to weed them out. PaulBlay
Kicked them into oldies, getting through old news will take a bit longer though. Averus 01:10, 12 June 2009 (CEST)

Time to keep news here

I think the items should stay on the front page for at least 6 weeks before moving them to old news. Nobody looks at the old news. --Jaydg 11:54, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

So I updated Voyage to Farland and 2 days later it's already moved to Old News? Items should at least stay up there a week or two. --Crow 7:40, 2 November 2011 (EST)

Updated classic ROGUE for Windows7

I found that my old versions of ROGUE didn't work on W7 so I set about fixing that. At the same time I decided to introduce a whole bunch of additions and changes that made sense to me. I've now finished the project and would be happy to release the source and the executable for fun and feedback - and this seems to be the place to do it. But I don't know how to post the files!

So if someone could contact me and let me know IF I can upload the files and HOW to do it I'd be very happy to participate.

cheers, stephen mckinnon

1. Please sign your posts with your username, which is Rogue7. It makes it easier to find you.
2. Unfortunately file uploads are disabled here. You'll have to upload it somewhere else. However, try and contact the Roguelike Restoration Project who maintain Rogue for newer operating systems. --Linlem 13:23, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
